Carrie Underwood Brushes Off Backlash After Inauguration Performance: ‘It’s On Them, Not Her’

Some fans were shocked when Carrie Underwood agreed to perform at the Jan. 20 inauguration of Donald Trump. The 41-year-old country star justified the move by saying of Americans, “We must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”

Her rendition of “America the Beautiful” got off to a rocky start, with her backing track failing to play.

The “Before He Cheats” singer pushed on, belting it out a cappella and inviting the crowd in the Capitol Rotunda to sing along.

One report said the American Idol alum — due back in March as a judge on the singing competition — was in a snit about the snafu, while others have claimed she’s lost more than 20K followers on Spotify. But a source says Carrie is not paying attention to the negativity.

Instead, she’s looking to her own future and doing what’s best for her career.

Indeed, that’s arguably what she’s been doing all along, regardless of any haters (see her 2021 duet with “anti-woke” star Jason Aldean, which scored her first No. 1 on the country charts in five years). “Carrie’s convinced the controversy will blow over,” says an insider. “If folks have an issue, it’s on them, not her.”
