Apple TV+ has released the trailer for its upcoming sci-fi series “Murderbot,” starring and executive produced by Alexander Skarsgård.

The series, set to premiere globally on May 16, is based on Martha Wells’ acclaimed book series, “The Murderbot Diaries.”

“Murderbot” is a comedic thriller that follows a self-hacking security construct, portrayed by Skarsgård, that grapples with human emotions while protecting its clients. Despite its desire to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas, Murderbot must navigate a dangerous mission while concealing its autonomy.

The series is brought to life by Academy Award nominees Chris and Paul Weitz, who serve as writers, directors, and producers under their Depth of Field banner. The ensemble cast includes Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones, and Tamara Podemski.

Produced by Paramount Television Studios, “Murderbot” also features executive producers David S. Goyer and Keith Levine from Phantom Four, with Martha Wells as a consulting producer. The show will debut with two episodes, followed by weekly releases every Friday until July 11.
