It’s no secret that Chelsea Handler is leaving her E! show Chelsea Lately after eight seasons when her contract expires this year — but what’s next?! The funny talk show host will soon be easily available through Netflix!
“Chelsea is closing in on a deal with Netflix quickly,” an insider tells Star. “She is hoping that everything will be ironed out by sometime early next week. She’s told her manager to lock it down as fast as possible.”
Along with the Netflix contract, the funny talk show host is negotiating a joint venture with Sirius XM Radio. “Sirius would air the audio version of the talk show,” the source reveals. “This is the first deal of its kind. Nothing like this has ever been proposed.”
Our insider explains that the show could be from one to four days a week. Each episode will be added to Netflix the day after it’s taped and air at the same time on XM Radio. “The topic of conversation will transition from pop culture and Kardashians to more worldly and respected actors and actresses, but it will still be funny!” the source adds. “She knows that is what draws her audience.”
In March, Chelsea told Howard Stern that she’d be interested in working with a network like Netflix. She may also develop a deal for a scripted comedy, similar to her other E! show After Lately, for the streaming media site.
