Prince William may give his in-laws titles when he takes the throne.
In a new documentary, entitled The Middletons: Should They Be Working Royals?, which will air on Britain’s Channel 5 on Saturday, February 28, experts discuss whether Princess Kate‘s parents, Carole Middleton, 71, and Michael Middleton, 76, could move into the “inner sanctum” of the Firm.
According to a Daily Mail article published on Tuesday, February 24, the publication’s columnist Sarah Vine says in the show: “In the 21st century, royalty is about how you behave. It’s not a given.”

“And if the royal family is anything in this day and age, it’s to set an example. It’s to uphold certain standards and Andrew broke those rules and so he’s no longer there,” she added of Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, 66, who was arrested last week over suspicion of misconduct in public office. Last year, his brother, King Charles III, also stripped him of all of his titles because of his connection to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
“But it means that a door is open to other people becoming royal through their behavior.”
Jack Royston, Newsweek’s chief royal correspondent, says in the documentary, per the Daily Mail, that he believes if William, 43, gave the Middletons a greater role would “completely rewrite the entire fabric of the monarchy”.
“But the guy does say he wants change,” Royston acknowledges. “Anything is possible.”

The future king is said to be close to his in-laws, as was shown in a video clip in September 2024 when Kate — who battled cancer — confirmed she had completed her chemotherapy treatment as per the BBC.
In the three-minute clip, William, Kate and their three children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, were seen playing games with their maternal grandparents.
“It just goes to show the influence that that family has on William, and how much he loves and respects them, that he doesn’t want them to be out of the loop in his family unit,” said Jo Elvin, the host of Daily Mail’s Palace Confidential, in the documentary.
