Whoopi Goldberg Is Not Afraid to Leave ‘The View’ Group Text, Cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin Says

Whoopi Goldberg doesn’t have time for your texts.

The longtime cohost of The View often ghosts the group chat, Alyssa Farah Griffin revealed on the Monday, July 6, episode of the Behind the Table podcast.

During the episode, executive producer Brian Teta explained that he had to start a text message that morning with all of the panelists because there were only going to be three cohosts sitting at the table — Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin and Farah Griffin — alongside last-minute fill-in Michelle Buteau. (Goldberg, 70, was stranded in Sicily because of Italy’s active volcano Mount Etna, while cohosts Sara Haines and Ana Navarro were also absent: Navarro, 54, was stuck in Miami and Haines, 48, was dealing with a storm-related issue at home.)

Farah Griffin, 37, explained that her phone was blowing up because of the group message.

“This morning when the text thread with all the hosts started popping off when you were explaining what was happening, I kept ignoring it,” Farah Griffin told Teta, 49, on Behind the Table.

“I was like, I feel like this is just Joy probably texting about what she wants to talk about today,” she added.

“There were so many texts,” Farah Griffin said. “I was like, ‘One down, two down, three down!'”

Teta admitted that he was hesitant to start a text thread first thing in the morning but felt he had to. “The last thing I want to do in the morning is start a text thread with all the hosts because it always spirals into madness,” he explained. “It’s a bad idea, but I did it today.”

“Do what Whoopi does and just leave the chat,” Farah Griffin suggested, to which Teta said he almost did.

“I almost added Robin, the head of the Hot Topics team, to the chat, and then I almost left it,” Teta said.

In a video explaining her absence, Goldberg said, “I know that we got all kinds of stories about our different vacations — well, I think my story just takes the cake: A volcano ate my homework!”
