VIDEO: James Maslow Dishes on DWTS Partner Switch

There’s a first time for everything! And on Dancing With the Stars that meant a major shake-up in the competition during Week 4. This week, fans were able to vote on which professional they wanted each celebrity to dance with, giving the stars the challenge of not only learning a new dance, but doing it with a new partner.

James Maslow, who normally dances with Peta Murgatroyd, was paired up with Cheryl Burke. On Tuesday, he opened up to Veria Living Live about making the switch. “It was actually very cool,” he admitted. “Both Cheryl and Peta ultimately have the same idea and the same goal — they want me to look as good as I can possibly look. But, they have two very different approaches in how they do it. I’ve got to say, it was a great experience and it was nice to see how a different professional dancer works.”

Meanwhile, Peta was matched with Charlie White, who topped the leader board during the first two weeks of the show. “At the beginning, it was one of those things, like, what if he does better than me?!” the Big Time Rush star admitted. “He’s an amazing dancer. In fact, in terms of the guys, he’s probably my biggest competition. But then, as we started getting into it, realizing the difficulties of learning a new dance in just a few days with a new partner, we really were rooting for each other.”

It worked out, though — James and Cheryl scored a 35/40, while Charlie and Peta received a 33.

Veria Living Live airs weekdays at 1 p.m. EST on Veria Living.
