Miles Davis’ mysterious 1991 death sparked a series of rumors regarding his ongoing health issues and alleged drug past. While the reason for his sudden passing was never revealed, friends of the late Jazz icon ad renowned doctors have spoken to REELZ to reveal the truth behind his troubled life.
“There was a story Miles told about standing on the street corner between sets smoking a cigarette,” began the first pal in a new show teaser for Autopsy: Miles Davis.
“Lurking in the shadows was a white police man, he comes up to him and says ‘move along, move along.’ Miles looks at him and says ‘see that name up there on the marquee? That’s me, I’m playing here. I’m taking a break. I ain’t gotta go no place. I’m not doing nothing, officer,” continued the second friend.
That police man then took out a metal club and “Bang! Busted his head wide open, and they took him to jail!”
As a black professional musician in the ‘80s, Davis had to deal with racism and discrimination, all which allegedly led to his anger issues and run-ins with the law.
“Racism tormented him his entire life, violence was part of his upbringing. Of course he was in a rage,” said a third insider in the clip. “Miles was known as the prince of darkness.”
“He could go off on incredible anger fits at people. They were like intergalactic,” added the second pal.
According to a fourth source, all the troubles he faced in his early years led Miles Davis to become scarred and easily provoked.
“You have the pain which is going to make you much more agitated and intense, you have the racism which is gonna make you angry, and a sense of justice, and the you have the adoration which is gonna give you a sense of entitlement. If you put those things together, it’s not surprising we have these reports about his personality,” she said in the docuseries promo.
As Star readers know, Miles continued performing until his untimely death at the age of 65. On the day of his passing, he’d gone to the hospital for a routine check-up, and was unable to survive his ailments.
