Personal problems seem to be taking a toll on Mariah Carey’s vocals — and it’s not good. The singer performed at the Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Dec. 3, and in a newly-released video showcasing just her isolated vocals, she really struggles through her hit “All I Want For Christmas is You.”
Things start out okay, but once the one-time American Idol judge tries to hit her first high note, everything goes downhill. The rest of the performance is filled with voice cracks, off-key singing and an uncomfortable-looking Mariah, who is constantly pressing her ear to hear herself better.
On Tuesday, the 44-year-old didn’t even show up to pre-tape her performance for the show, and rescheduled to hit the stage on Wednesday instead — clearly with a backing track and back-up singers to help out. Mariah has been criticized for lackluster vocals and performances throughout her recent Elusive Chanteuse Show tour, which she’s been traveling for throughout ongoing problems in her marriage to Nick Cannon.
