Hugh Hefner Was Confined To Wheelchair, Had ‘Acute’ Back Pain In Sad Last Days

The ‘Playboy’ founder couldn’t get around his mansion without team of staffers.

Hugh Hefner glamorized pornography with his wildly popular Playboy brand and scandalous magazine.

As Star readers know, the media icon’s promiscuous lifestyle—while controversial—was in part, what kept his heart healthy and his spirit young, well beyond his years.

Now, one year after his tragic death, REELZ’s new docuseries, Autopsy Hugh Hefner, is seeking to discover what really killed the famous millionaire at age 91.

“So far, I have learned that Hugh Hefner suffered from stress, was a long-term smoker, and had an unhealthy diet, all of which had a detrimental effect on his health,” says Forensic Pathologist Dr. Michael Hunter in the show trailer.

Star readers know that for a number of years, Hefner also suffered from debilitating back pain, which left him confined to a wheel chair inside his mansion during his sad last days.

“I knew he had massive back problems, and what he took for it I have no idea,” says former Playmate Lillian Muller.

“The last two or three times I saw Hef, the back pain had become pretty acute, was hindering him getting around, he was even grimacing. It had become quite severe.,” adds Hefner biographer Steven Watts.

So was it Hugh Hefner’s bad habits what contributed to his death?

Autopsy Hugh Hefner airs Sunday, August 19 at 9:00 ET/PT on REELZ.
