First TV Interview

WATCH: Carrie Underwood Opens Up About Accident On 'Today Show'

Plus, details on the singer's workout line Calia and new song, 'Cry Pretty.'

Carrie Underwood has slowly returned to the spotlight following her freak accident that left her with a broken wrist and 40 stitches in her face. In her first TV interview with Hoda Kotb of the Today Show, the singer revealed new details on her accident, her song “Cry Pretty,” and her new workout clothing line Calia.

In an end of the year post, Carrie first revealed to fans that her November 10th fall was more gruesome then she had previously let on via her website. At the time, she warned fans that she “might look a bit different” when she gets back in front of the camera, but in her first televised interview the star appeared to look the same, which Hoda noted.

After speaking about the country singer’s first performance since her accident at the 53rd Academy of Country Music Awards last month, Hoda asked the question fans have been dying to know.

“So, what did happen that day?” Hoda Asked.

“Plain and simple, it was just kind of a freak accident,” Carrie told The Today host. “I just fell. I tripped taking my dogs out to do their business.”

Adding, “It could’ve happened to anybody. I say if I had fallen anywhere else, it wouldn’t have been a problem. There was one little step that I went to catch myself on and I missed.”

“In the beginning I did know how things were going to end up. It just wasn’t pretty and you don’t know where you’re going to be in six months,” she said.

Carrie then went on to explain her absence from social media while she was recovering and why she felt the need to warn fans about her appearance once she started to “rejoin the world again.”

“I felt like someone was gonna creep on me and take a picture of me and post it on Instagram or something and people would be like ‘oh my gosh what happened?’”

However, since then Carrie’s injuries have healed nicely, and she says everyday she’s feeling more like herself.

“I have a dedicated team of professionals who can spackle and paint and paste,” she also told Hoda, adding, “Every day I’m feeling a little more back to normal.”
