Aziz Ansari has responded to the sexual misconduct claims made against him, with a shocking apology toward his accuser.
“In September of last year, I met a woman at a party. We exchanged numbers. We texted back and forth and eventually went on a date,” Ansari said in a statement to PEOPLE.
“We went out to dinner, and afterwards we ended up engaging in sexual activity, which by all indications was completely consensual.”
“The next day, I got a text from her saying that although ‘it may have seemed okay,’ upon further reflection, she felt uncomfortable.”
“It was true that everything did seem okay to me, so when I heard that it was not the case for her, I was surprised and concerned.”
“ I took her words to heart and responded privately after taking the time to process what she had said,” the comedian continued in his statement.”
The Master Of None star’s apology comes after a woman claimed he sexually harassed her when she was clearly “giving off cues that [she] wasn’t interested.”
She claimed the encounter between them was the “worst night” of her life.
The actor allegedly responded to the 23-year-old, saying that he was sorry she felt harassed, as he thought the encounter was consensual.
In his recent statement, Aziz Ansari, 34, said that he continues to support the movement that is happening in our culture.
“It is necessary and long overdue,” and is deeply sorry for his part in the sexual encounter.
