Universal Pictures ‘Actively Exploring’ How to Continue ‘Wicked’ Franchise Amid Sequel’s Success
With ticket sales surpassing $500 million globally for the Wicked sequel, Wicked: For Good, sources tell Star Universal Pictures is looking to keep the momentum going.
“They’re actively exploring how to continue the franchise,” says the insider.
Star Ariana Grande even hinted at a three-quel, saying, “I don’t think anybody’s going anywhere.”
But the source says the 32-year-old’s participation isn’t locked in. “She’s just not entertaining the offer, no matter how much studio execs are sucking up to her,” says the source. “Her team is playing hardball, saying no to big money and insisting that Ariana is ready to work on other projects and characters.”
The belief is that Ari has “a number in mind, to get her back in the role of Glinda,” says the source. “It’s just a matter of time until they hit it.”
