Taylor Swift is the first to admit that she “knew nothing” about football before meeting fiancé Travis Kelce. On their first date, she even asked the footballer what it was like to stand “five feet in front” of his brother, Philadelphia Eagles’ center Jason Kelce, at Super Bowl LVII, she recalled on the New Heights podcast. “[Travis] was like, ‘Actually, I’m on the offense and my brother’s on the offense, and I’m only on the field at the same time as the defense.’ I thought everyone was on the field at the same time!”

Taylor has come a long way in the two years since she and Travis, 35, got together in 2023. She not only fell in love with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end but also with the game. “I became a person who was running through the halls of my house screaming, ‘We drafted Xavier Worthy!’” said the pop star, also 35. “My friends are like ‘Who bodysnatched you?’” Now that she’s officially engaged to the NFLer, her Eras tour has wrapped and his season is beginning, she is ready to rejoin the ranks of the WAGs — that’s “wives and girlfriends” — to cheer on her fiancé.

A Good Sport

Seeing Taylor up in the stands is a pretty surreal sight for Travis. “It’s so cool that I get to experience her being that plus-one for me,” he told GQ. “She is the most engulfed fan now. She knows what the injury reports look like. She understands what special situations are, third and short — all these things because she just naturally loves to hear about my job.” He’s just as invested in his fiancée’s career, traveling around the world to catch her shows last year and fanboying out. “People gravitate toward how she performs and how she makes it feel like the entire stadium is in this little room with her,” he gushed. “She is so good at mesmerizing everybody and making everybody feel like it’s an intimate situation.”

New Squad

Taylor has taken that same approach in her role as an NFL WAG. She won over the Chiefs offensive linemen with her hand-made pop tarts, revealed coach Andy Reid, and has even drawn up plays for the team, spilled QB Patrick Mahomes. “Meeting Taylor, realizing how genuine and cool she is… I think that’s been special to me because… [she’s] like … the most famous person in the world,” he dished during an NFL on NBC interview. Taylor has befriended the players’ wives and girlfriends, too. She often watches games at Arrowhead Stadium with Patrick’s spouse, Brittany Mahomes, and the two couples have been on countless double dates. Taylor also formed a close bond with former backup quarterback Shane Buechele and tight end Blake Bell’s better halves, reportedly hosting a watch party for them at her NYC apartment when the Chiefs played the Miami Dolphins in Germany in 2023, per Page Six. “Taylor is really in her element now,” a source tells Star. “She’s well and truly part of the group and always feels right at home.”

Queen Of ‘The Kingdom’

The Chiefs have proudly claimed Taylor as one of their own and she, in turn, has embraced them. The singer gave ESPN’s new Chiefs docuseries, The Kingdom, a rare seal of approval, allowing the network to use her image and likeness in the show according to People. Swifties will get a “fun… little peek into Travis’ relationship with Taylor,” hinted the team’s owner, Clark Hunt to People. Marketing officer Lara Krug told People, “You see her in the way that I think is how she wanted to be seen, which is as a fan of the community.”

While there are some football fanatics — the “dads, Brads and Chads” as Taylor referred to them in an interview with Time — who have grown tired of seeing the Grammy winner on their TV sets, that hasn’t stopped her from showing up to support Travis. Indeed, according to Star’s source, the “criticism and booing… inspired Taylor to learn a lot more about football and prove to those critics that she’s there for the right reasons. There will always be cynics who try to pick holes and look for drama,” adds the source. “But Taylor knows she has every right to be there and doesn’t feel like there’s anything to prove.” As Patrick himself has said: “She’s just part of Chiefs Kingdom. And she’s part of the team.” Now more than ever!
