Broadway fans will get a thrill when And Just Like That returns to HBO and Max this year. Show creator Michael Patrick King recently revealed that theater queen Patti LuPone will come on board the Sex and the City spinoff for a multi-episode arc. She’ll join the already announced Rosie O’Donnell and Cheri Oteri, among others, on season 3 of the show about NYC women. “It’s a lot of ‘new’ within the familiar,” King teased. “But even the familiar characters are going through new things.”

Season 2 ended with Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) finally settling into her new apartment. Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) will also be getting new digs. “We feel there’s a lot of newness in the world right now,” said King. “Especially for these ladies.”

Some familiar faces will also be absent in the new season. Due to scheduling conflicts with Apple TV+’s The Morning Show, Karen Pittman’s Nya Wallis has been written off, while Miranda’s controversial love interest Che (Sara Ramirez) will no longer appear. King compared the cut to the OG SATC. “Just like all the great loves that have been on this show, when an evolution comes, you’re like, that character needs to go on,” he said. “Carrie’s had a Berger, she’s had a Petrovsky. Miranda’s had a Skipper, and now she’s had a Che. And it was time for that character to move on.”
