Savannah Guthrie Admits It Took ‘Years to Recover’ From Divorce in Rare Remark About First Husband

Savannah Guthrie’s divorce was a challenging part of her life that she would rather not relive.

On Tuesday, July 1, the Today co-host, 53, was a guest on the Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky podcast, where she explained how there were specific topics — including her divorce — that she did not want to cover in her 2024 book, Mostly What God Does.

Guthrie recounted how, while getting a massage, she had a “reverie” about the things she didn’t want to write about.

“I don’t want to talk about getting divorced. It was horrible and sad, and it broke my heart, and it took me years to recover,” she confessed. “I’m not blaming anyone, but I don’t really want to get into it.”

In 2005, Guthrie wed English BBC journalist Mark Orchard. The pair divorced in 2009.

The TV personality further explained on the podcast that she opted to include disclaimers in her book, telling readers that she would open up but wouldn’t divulge all the details of her life.

“But also, you [readers] might be wondering, it seems like you, right now, have it all kind of going for you. You’re married, you’ve got these two kids, you got this great job, like what problems do you have?” Guthrie admitted. “So I wanted to say you know what I have experienced adversity, but I don’t really want to tell you about the depths of that. Because some of that was just too personal and too embarrassing.”

“I was like, you know what? I’m down here. My feet are burning on the pavement. I just don’t want to tell you why the pavement was so hot or how many blisters I had on my feet,” she added. “I don’t want to give you the gory details, but I do want to share with you.”

Following the divorce, Guthrie went on to marry Michael Feldman in 2014. The pair share a daughter, Vale, 10, and a son, Charley, 8.

In February, Guthrie appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show and shared a funny story about how she broke up with Feldman the same day they got engaged.

At the time, she explained that they had gone on vacation together after dating for five and a half years, and she decided to end the relationship because he still hadn’t popped the question — unaware that he was planning to propose on the trip all along.

“So the whole day we spent together, I’m like, all weepy and [feeling] like, ‘Did I make the right decision?’ and this and that,” she recalled. “Little do I know, he’s literally got this engagement ring in his pocket.”

“Finally, he comes around and gets down on one knee, and I was like, ‘What?’” she added. “It was so shocking to me, and I was so happy.”
