Ryan Seacrest‘s gaunt appearance had fans worried when he stepped out at the 29th annual UCLA Jonsson Cancer Foundation Taste for a Cure gala in early May. One speculated he’d had buccal fat removed from his cheeks, while another empathized, “Being in front of a camera as you age is not fun. Pressure to stay thin is constant.”
It’s not the first time the 51-year-old — frequently described as the busiest man in Hollywood — has come under scrutiny for his looks. In fact, the issue goes all the way back to his childhood when he once said on air that he was bullied for not being “in the greatest of shape,” People reported. As he explained to Live With Kelly and Ryan cohost Kelly Ripa in 2022, “I was teased for it, and I will always see that little boy when I look in the mirror.” (He also admitted he’s consulted “experts” about the problem.)

As a result, the American Idol host has dealt with issues around food, according to an insider. “His diet and exercise routine is super important to him,” a source tells Star. “He’s one of the most active and fitness-focused people you could ever meet.”
Still, the online chatter about him rankles Ryan. “He’s sick of this topic,” says the source. “He knows there’s a ton of scrutiny of his appearance and how much weight he’s supposedly lost in his facial features especially. He insists everything’s fine.”
