Rebecca Gayheart Talks Standing By Ex Eric Dane Amid ALS Battle For the Sake of Their Daughters
Seven years after filing for divorce, Rebecca Gayheart dismissed the petition in 2025. The 54-year-old wasn’t reconciling with ex Eric Dane. Eric, 53, had been diagnosed with ALS (a.k.a. Lou Gehrig’s disease), a terminal neurodegenerative illness, and though she was dating someone new, Rebecca decided to participate in his care for the sake of their daughters, Billie, 15, and 14-year-old Georgia.
“Our love might not be romantic,” she writes in New York magazine, adding, “Eric knows… that I’m going to do my best to do right by him. And I know he would do the same for me.”
Now that the Grey’s Anatomy alum requires 24/7 nursing, that sometimes means hands-on care as well as navigating insurance claims. Rebecca says spending more time together has been “positive” for her girls. “Hopefully, what they see… are two adults who are trying to be mature and focus on what’s important.”
