From Party Animals to Alcohol Moguls: These Stars Used Premium Spirits to Strike It Rich

These Stars Used Premium Spirits to Strike it Rich

Famous faces and names have a way of making profits rise for whatever product or company they’re associated with and the alcohol industry is no different. In fact, there are a number of celebrities that have invested in or started their own premium spirit brands and are now raking in the big bucks.

George Clooney

George Clooney earns our top spot after recently selling his “accidental” liquor company, Casamigos Tequila, for over $1 billion. According to Clooney’s business partner, Rande Gerber, the pair went on a tequila binge a few years ago while vacationing in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. It was there that they came up with the idea to launch their own brand. A good business strategy, as it turns out.

Bethenny Frankel

In 2011, the founder of the Skinny Girl Cocktails, Bethenny Frankel, also a noted television personality and self-help book author, teamed up with the Beam liquor company, which also produces Jim Beam Bourbon. Struggling to meet the demand for her 100-calorie margarita brand, Frankel’s partnership with Beam soon earned her a healthy $120 million profit.

Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake is another celebrity that seems to have invested his money wisely. In 2014, he partnered with Sauza Tequila, where he marketed a flavor of his own design, “Sauza 901”. Named after the area code of his hometown of Memphis, the tequila, coupled with Timberlake’s shares in Bud Light Beer, have earned the star a respectable reputation as one of Hollywood’s most successful alcohol moguls.

Drew Barrymore

Known for her passion for wine-tasting, Drew Barrymore is yet another pioneer in the realm of premium spirits. She started her own pinot and rosé selection, aptly titled “Barrymore Wines”, after partnering with Carmel Road in 2017. While other celebrities have taken to alcohol production in the past, Barrymore’s famous face and passion for winemaking have launched her even further up the fame ladder.

Dan Aykroyd

While not many have studied the legend of the 13 Crystal Skulls, Canadian-born actor Dan Aykroyd has a fascination with the subject. That same fascination prompted him to produce his quadruple-distilled, Herkimer diamond-filtered Crystal Head Vodka in 2007. With the iconic skull-shaped bottle designed by artist John Alexander, the unique vodka brand soon made Aykroyd famous in the alcohol industry, despite the bottles being banned in his home province of Ontario for being too taboo for the way they look.
