Prince William Publicly Showing Softer Side Signals a Significant Shift When He Takes the Throne
In recent weeks, Prince William, 43, has been signaling a shift in priorities when he accedes the throne — a reality that doesn’t seem so distant in the wake of Charles’ 2024 cancer diagnosis.
On Oct. 3, the future king rode a scooter to meet comedy star Eugene Levy for a casual interview on the Apple TV+ series The Reluctant Traveler.
“I think it’s safe to say that change is on my agenda — change for good,” he promised during the decidedly unstuffy chat. And an Oct. 10 video marking World Mental Health Day made headlines as the heir tearfully connected with a woman who lost her husband to suicide following their baby’s death — no stiff upper lip in sight. Both were in contrast to his father’s and William’s own aloof image.
“He’s on fast forward,” explained former Vanity Fair editor and royal author Tina Brown told The New York Times. “His father had 50 years to tell the world who he was before becoming king. It’s essential for William to show the human side of himself before his image gets set in stone as the stoic foil to Harry.”
