Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Cut Beleaguered Charity Staff by 60 Percent, Down to Just 2 Employees

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s rebranded charity has been cut down to just two employees in a money saving move by the couple, Page Six reported on Monday, December 22.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced last week they are going into the new year with a new name as the Archewell Foundation will become Archewell Philanthropies. But the changes don’t stop there.

“Harry and Meghan have been forced to downsize the staff as it was costing them so much,” a source told the outlet, noting that 60 percent of their workforce have now been let go, with only the Executive Director James Holt, who’s been with the couple for a number of years, and Vice-President of Philanthropy Shauna Nep, remaining.

“The big question was, would Archewell close, or would another charity take it over? Harry and Meghan were looking to get a fiscal sponsor, someone to take on the outgoing costs and to keep things cheap,” the source continued to the outlet. “Really, it’s all smoke and mirrors.”

As Star previously reported, the employees were told they were being terminated “because the charity was closing,” according to the Daily Mail.

When the announced the name change on their website, it was accompanied by a holiday video featuring the Spare author, 42, and the former Suits actress, 44 and the work they’ve done throughout the year. Their children, Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4, made a rare appearance.
