Sampling free food is one thing; making a meal of it with your four kids is quite another.

But that's what it's come to for Tori and husband Dean, who spent late-August Sunday at the farmer's market in Studio City, Calif., gobbling tasty giveaways with their sons Liam, 8, and Finn, 3, and daughters Stella, 7, and Hattie, 3.

"They told their kids to ask the vendors for food," says a witness. "They made it look like it was about trying new things, but it seemed like they wanted to fill up without having to buy anything."

Tori and Dean drew stares at the event, which was supposedly filmed for their new show on Cooking Channel—a last attempt to dig the family out of their mounting money woes.

Though a rep for the couple denies they're in dire financial straits, the outing follows along a string of events that proves the family is in a bind: a huge yard sale in June before moving to a renal house half the size, Dean spotted doing laundry at a laundromat, and even filing a lawsuit at one point.

"I was raised in opulence," wrote Tori—who only got $800,000 of her dad Aaron Spelling's $600 million fortune when he died, in 2006—in her memoir. "When you grow up silver spoon, it's hard to go plastic," she says.

"I think the world saw too much of us, certainly too much of me," Dean claimed after he lost his job as host of the Canadian version of Chopped, which only contributed to the stress of the family living paycheck to paycheck.
