For years, divorce rumors hounded former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and her husband Todd. The couple, who eloped in 1988, were thrust into the spotlight in 2008 when she joined Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign. After their ticket lost the presidency, the pair and their five children — sons Track, 30, and Trig, 11, and daughters Bristol, 29, Willow, 25, and Piper, 18 — remained the focus of much speculation and gossip. Now, those rumors of a rift have proven — Todd filed for divorce on September 6.
In 2010, there were rumors that Sarah and Todd, both 55, were heading toward a $20 million divorce settlement.
“I call Todd on the cell phone [from the grocery checkout] and I say, ‘Todd, you won’t believe this cover!’ And he says, ‘Twenty million? Write me a check,’” she told People at the time about the gossip. “He’s good about laughing some of that stuff off.”
