Paternity Puzzle! Inside Padma Lakshmi’s Struggle To Figure Out Who Her Daughter’s Father Is

When Padma, 45, found out she was pregnant in 2009 — despite being diagnosed with endometriosis — she didn't know the paternity of her daughter, Krishna Thea Lakshmi!

At the time she learned of her baby bombshell, she was dating both Adam Dell and the now-deceased Teddy Forstmann. She revealed that she was up front with both men that she was dating other people — but that didn't do much once she conceived a child.

"I saw his face go white, then beet red," she wrote in her memoir, Love, Loss and What We Ate, of how Teddy, her boyfriend at the time, reacted. "It was as if the room could not contain him, or as if his body could not contain his fury at the information he had just received."

But instead of leaving the Top Chef host, he helped her through the pregnancy."He wasn't going to leave my side," she says. "Maybe he didn't know if he could stay in a romantic relationship with me or not. I think neither of us knew what was going to happen but he was resolute in making sure I wasn't alone. He held my hand and he held it very publicly," she wrote.

She had a paternity test conducted the September after Krishna was born, and it was revealed that Adam was the father.

Despite the news, Teddy still left Krishna a trust fund when he died of cancer in 2012.
