Saturday Night Live boss Lorne Michaels is taking some major steps to help Pete Davidson. The comedian worried fans, friends, and family on Saturday, December 15, when he posted a message on Instagram that alluded to suicidal thoughts. On Saturday, Pete, 25, posted a message to Instagram, writing, “i really don’t want to be on this earth anymore. i’m doing my best to stay here for you but i actually don’t know how much longer i can last. all i’ve tried to do was help people. just remember i told you so.”

He deleted the post shortly after he uploaded it, and then deleted his Instagram account again.

All this was going on while the
SNL cast and crew was getting ready for that night’s episode. A source told
Page Six, “The decision was taken to give Pete a break on Saturday night. His sketches were dropped before the early evening rehearsals.” Pete still appeared on the show to introduce
Miley Cyrus’ music performance.

“Lorne has pledged to help all he can, including sending Pete to get help,” the source explained. “Everyone on the cast is hugely protective of him and were obviously upset — particularly
Colin Jost and
Michael Che on ‘Weekend Update.’” Pete often appears as himself on that segment, riffing about his personal life.

The show is on break until 2019, and it’s believed that Pete will be back then. Sources told Page Six that there are currently no conversations about him taking time off.

Pete previously took a hiatus from the show in 2016 to go to rehab. He assumed his mental health issues were caused by weed, but in December 2016 he was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.
