And Kim didn’t come alone — she brought along North, who also loves makeup. “She’s so shy right now, but she’s never seen me do anything like this. She has no idea what I do, so this is exciting for me today!” the mom of three told the crowd. She also said that she told North that the event wasn’t just for girls, but also “for boys who love makeup too.”

Kim talked about how great it is to run her own brand and have so much control. “You can change the formulas or colors as you go,” she said. “I was in licensing deals before and you just don’t have the same control or make the same kind of money.” She announced that KKW is dropping a new palette of brown and bronze shades, new lip products, and new lip liners.

Kim also answered some tougher questions about cultural appropriation. The beauty lover has been criticized in the past for wearing hairstyles like Fulani braids. She said, “The last time I wore braids, my daughter helped me pick out a look. If you don’t communicate where you got the inspiration, and I’ve done that in the past, then people might not understand it. But I think as long as it comes from a place of love and you’re inspired, it’s OK.”

She also talked about the trip she recently took to the California Institution for Women, where she visited women prisoners with life sentences. "I heard what life is really like inside and some things have to change, so if I can use my power to help, that’s what I want to spend my time doing,” she said. “I don’t want to stop.”
