John Stamos Chokes Up On Stage During TV Land Icon Awards, Reveals More Secrets About His Dark Past

The 52-year-old actor scooped up the Timeless Icon Award on April 17, but his acceptance speech made everyone in the audience get a lump in their throat.

“I want to thank my parents,” John said with a tear-jerking voice. “Boy, they would’ve loved this, Loretta and Bill, they were really good people. They taught me to be kind and to be generous and to be loving to everyone that you meet on this journey.”

“You know, when you’re on a roll in Hollywood, everybody wants to be your friend and then you go through some rough patches and they all disappear except for people that really love you for you,” John said during his speech. “And those people are what get me going every single day and the reason I’m up here today.”

Star reported that John was arrested in Beverly Hills on June 12 after police received numerous calls about a possible drunk driver — he was charged with driving under the influence and sentenced to three years’ probation.

“Since then, John has really turned his life around,” a source told Star, crediting the Grandfathered star’s 30-day stint in rehab with saving his life.

“He’s surrounded himself with family and close friends… and Caitlin. John is absolutely smitten with that girl, but he also knows just how important it is to take this one day at a time,” revealed the insider.
