Dr. Stuart Fischer provided some insight about the "Rhythm Nation" singer's condition to Radar, saying “God forbid that this should be cancer of the larynx, that would abruptly end her ability to ever perform again.”

Dr. Fischer went on to explain that not only would a cancer diagnosis be the end of Janet's singing career, but that she would likely also need assistance in order to talk. "A patient often needs an electrolarynx, or artificial voice box, just to be able to speak."
