A hero dog who helped save his family’s lives from a gunman has passed away. Zero took three bullets as he bit and tackled the shooter, keeping him from causing more harm. Click through the gallery for all the info.

Zero’s owner
Laura Martinez was hosting a party for her youngest daughter on March 10. According to her
GoFundMe page, a day earlier, the family had realized they were robbed by a kid they knew from the neighborhood.

They were sure he’d done it because they saw him wearing a stolen hat on Snapchat. Laura went to his parents’ house and left a note about the robbery.

The teen arrived at the house on Sunday during the party and started an altercation. Then, according to Laura, he opened fire.

But after he fired the first shot, Zero the dog ran up to him and bit him. The teen shot the dog, who tackled him to the ground.

Laura was shot in the leg, but credited the dog with saving the family from more harm. Zero, a Great Pyrenees, was put down after the surgeon said he couldn’t be saved.
