“Inevitably when I think back to a time in my early twenties, I remember that I felt so helpless that I questioned whether I wanted to live," the 38-year-old wrote. "I was living 100 miles per hour, smoking, drinking, eating badly, not sleeping much, and living pretty much out of a suitcase."

The Brazil native experienced her first panic attack in 2003. They reoccured for the next nine months. Her first came on a plane, but they popped up in lots of small spaces. "Suddenly I didn’t feel right about getting on elevators. I felt I couldn’t breathe.”

“It felt like everything in my life was going to kill me. First it was airplanes, then elevators, Then it was tunnels and hotels and modeling studios and cars. Now it was my own apartment. Everything had become a cage, and I was the animal trapped inside, panting for air," she wrote. Doctors prescribed her Xanax, but she threw them out and focused on meditation and yoga instead.

Around that time, she was also dating actor
