Take one extraordinarily good-looking power couple, add in six ethnically diverse children and a lifestyle of constant global-trotting through both war-torn regions and idyllic locales, and you'll get an incomprehensibly odd family existence. No one else on earth — not even the royals — lives like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's unconventional clan.

So when Angelina was spotted with two of her kids — Shiloh, 9, and Vivienne, 7 — through the London streets on April 26, it's no surprise they were treated to a toy store shopping spree before lunch.

Three former nannies, who worked for the Jolie-Pitts, filled Star in on the startling details of their mysterious universe — a rarefield world of security guards and nannies and nothing that other kids have: no friends, no school, no rules.

"It's like they're living in a hippie commune most of the time, because Angie doesn't believe in rules. She thinks it's important for children to have freedom of expression but that doesn't always work out well," the insider told Star.

Perhaps the most clear-cut example of Angelina's "anything goes" parenting is the fact that the children don't go to traditional school. "She lets the kids learn what they want and ignore the stuff that doesn't interest them," the source said.

Part of what makes their life difficult is their lack of close friends. Unable to meet anyone at school and regularly traveling, the kids are stuck in their own little bubble most of the time. "Because they live such bizarre lives, they are a very tight-knit clan," the insider says. "They don't have sleepovers with other kids — but they have each other!"

"They've been known to spend upwards of $2 million on long, lavish vacations," the source revealed. "But even in five-star hotels, the kids are running riot at all hours of the day and night. It's exhausting for the nannies to keep up!"

Indeed, raising six children is no small feat — even with unlimited resources. "Those kids are growing up like no one else," the source added. "It will be interesting to see what they're like when they're adults."
