Mary Cosby’s Late Son Robert Admitted He ‘Wanted to Die’ in Heartbreaking Resurfaced ‘RHOSLC’ Clip

Following the death of Mary Cosby’s 23-year-old son, Robert Cosby Jr., a resurfaced clip from Real Housewives of Salt Lake City sheds more light on his struggle with substance abuse.

TMZ reported on Wednesday, February 25, that Robert died on Monday in Utah. While no cause of death has been officially announced, the outlet said authorities responded to a call about a possible overdose.

In the resurfaced clip from the Bravo reality show, Mary, 53, and her son had an emotional sit-down conversation about Robert’s drug use, and at one point in the conversation, he told her that he “wanted to die.”

During their conversation, Robert revealed that he was taking Xanax because he couldn’t sleep. He said he would then take “Adderall to balance out the Xanax.”

“Do you see this as a problem?” Mary asked her son, to which he replied, “I feel like, I don’t know, life is like this chicken unseasoned, but when I get high, it’s like adding seasoning to it.”

He explained to his mother that, at first, he would only “stick to natural stuff” like marijuana, but after being offered harder drugs at a party, he began to become hooked.

Robert went on to try different substances, including acid, Molly and cocaine.

“I won’t judge you,” Mary pleaded with her son, offering to help him but saying that he needed to be ready to help himself.

In a confessional, Mary told cameras, “I just feel very disappointed with myself. I feel like I let him down somewhere. I’m very aware, and I do know that Robert did smoke weed. I do know he would eat edibles, but yet I just trusted him in my mind thinking that’s where he would stop, and I was clearly wrong.”

When Mary pointed out that he is lucky to be alive, Robert heartbreakingly admitted, “I wanted to die,” to which his mother said: “Do you know how that would kill me?”

“I just felt like a stain,” he told his mother, who was crying. “I felt this world wasn’t for me … You’re the only reason I didn’t kill myself.”

She told him that she loved him so much, adding: “You’re my friend. You’re my son. You’re my gift. God gave you to me. You’re the only thing that ever made me happy. Before I had you I was never happy. You came, and you were so real. It was everything I hoped for in a person.”

Mary concluded their conversation by telling him to “change” his behavior as they tearfully embraced.
