Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi Welcome a New Generation to Fall in Love With ‘Wuthering Heights’
Heathcliff (Jacob Elordi) and Catherine (Margot Robbie) have been soulmates since childhood, when her father brough the orphan boy home to live with the family. Often mistreated, Heathcliff flees when Catherine becomes engaged to their neighbor, Edgar Linton (Shazad Latif). But three years later, he returns, wealthy — and bitter.
Though he’s still in love with Catherine, he retaliates against her betrayal by marrying Edgar’s sister, Isabella (Alison Oliver), who’s infatuated with him. But there’s no happily ever after for either of the couples.
Director Emerald Fennell, who’s a master of films about revenge (Saltburn, Promising Young Woman), highlights the sinister underpinnings of Emily Brontë’s tale of destructive love.
