In a series of since-deleted social media posts, the Jaws actor’s son Ben, 39 — one of three kids the 78-year-old shares with ex-wife Jeramie Rain — said he and his famous father fell out in the wake of the MeToo movement in 2017, per Daily Mail. Ben, who was handling his father’s social media at the time, wrote a post in support of his younger brother Harry, 35, who’d come forward with allegations that Kevin Spacey had groped him at age 18 (Kevin denied the claims). “That tweet prompted someone to MeToo my dad,” Ben explained in November. “This led to years of acrimony.” (Of the allegations against him, Richard said he believed he was participating in a “consensual seduction ritual.”)
Kate Hudson
Kate, 46, recently said she sensed a thaw in her relationship with dad Bill Hudson. It’s been a long time coming. The singer, 76, who divorced Kate’s mom Goldie Hawn in 1982, has said losing custody of Kate and her brother, Oliver, 49, had alienated them. Then in 2011 he lashed out at Kate for not helping his sick mother or wanting to meet his young daughter. “She has done stuff which is just awful,” he said. “She is a spoiled brat in my eyes.” No wonder the Running Point star calls Goldie’s longtime love Kurt Russell “Pa”!

The Pope of Greenwich Village actor admits that his substance abuse had a disastrous effect on his family, including estranging him from his sister, Julia Roberts. “Of Course, the biggest consequence was losing Emma,” he wrote in his memoir, Runaway Train: Or the Story of My Life So Far, of losing custody of the 34-year-old to her mom Kim Cunningham, per People. In 2024, he said on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast of their estrangement, “There’s not a pain, there’s a sadness for the, most likely, misunderstandings that I’ll have forever. Because we’re human.”

The 45-year-old and his talented siblings — including fellow child stars Kieran, 43, and Rory, 36 — had a challenging upbringing with their stage-dad father, the failed actor Kit Culkin, 81. Explaining his decades-long estrangement from his father in March on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast, the Home Alone star alleged, “He was a bad man. He was abusive physically and mentally.” The former child star claimed his father — who he called a “monster” — was jealous of his kids’ early success. “Everything he tried to do in life, I excelled at before I was 10 years old.”

In his memoir, We Did OK, Kid, the Oscar winner, 87, opened up about his troubled relationship with daughter Abigail. An alcoholic when he wed the 57-year-old’s mom, Petronella Barker, in 1957, he walked out when his daughter was just 14 months old. “Abigail never seemed able to forgive me for leaving the family when she was a baby,” he wrote. Though he tried to reconcile over the years, Anthony told The New York Times Abigail shut him out. “So I think, OK, fine. I wish her well, but I’m not going to waste blood over that.”
