‘Love Story’ Creator Reveals Which Famous Couple He’s Eyeing For Intense Second Season

As hit series Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette wraps up its whirlwind run, talk has already turned to the next chapter.

A second season is expected to be confirmed by FX in the coming weeks, and creator Connor Hines has let slip which couple it could feature.

Speaking to Vanity Fair on Monday, March 23, Hines suggested: “Maybe Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. They have the right intensity.”

With a mix of glamour, scandal and emotional extremes, their story fits squarely within the show’s dramatic template which has been so successful.

The actors’ relationship began under controversial circumstances on the film set of Cleopatra in 1963. At the time, Taylor was married to Eddie Fisher, while Burton was still with his first wife, Sybil Williams. Their affair quickly became one of the most talked-about Hollywood scandals of the era.

By 1964, both marriages had ended and Taylor and Burton married, launching a relationship that would captivate the public for more than a decade. Known for their lavish lifestyle and equally dramatic arguments, the couple became fixtures of international headlines for years to come.

They divorced in 1974 after 10 years of marriage, only to remarry the following year in a brief reconciliation that ended in a second divorce in 1976. Burton died aged 58 in 1984, whilst Taylor was 79 when she died in 2011.

The first season of Love Story launched on February 12 and dramatizes the highly scrutinized romance between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, whose marriage unfolded under relentless media attention.

Describing how the finished product has played out on screen, a delighted Hines told Vanity Fair: “It’s exactly as I pictured it in my mind when I was writing it.”

The series ends on March 26 and the finale will likely explore the tragic deaths of JFK Jr. and Bessette.
