Lindsey Vonn Shares Surgery Update from Hospital Bed After Winter Olympics Ski Crash

Lindsey Vonn is updating fans on her recovery after her devastating 2026 Winter Olympics crash.

Vonn, 41, filled fans in on Wednesday, February 11, in an Instagram caption, alongside photos of herself lying in a hospital bed. She revealed she underwent her third surgery.

“I had my 3rd surgery today and it was successful,” Vonn wrote. “Success today has a completely different meaning than it did a few days ago. I’m making progress and while it is slow, I know I’ll be ok.”

She also expressed gratitude for the medical staff, loved ones and supporters who have rallied around her during her recovery.

“Thankful for all of the incredible medical staff, friends, family, who have been by my side and the beautiful outpouring of love and support from people around the world. Also, huge congrats to my teammates and all of the Team USA athletes who are out there inspiring me and giving me something to cheer for. ❤️🤍💙”

The post garnered nearly 300,000 likes on Instagram within an hour. In a second photo, Vonn appeared to high-five a member of the medical staff, while a third showed several large bouquets of flowers that have been delivered to the skier.

Several famous friends shared well wishes in the comments section. “Superhero,” wrote Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Mariska Hargitay. “You are so inspiring!!!” model Ashley Graham commented.

“Sending you love,” tennis champion Naomi Osaka wrote.

Vonn crashed just 13 seconds into the women’s downhill run on the Olympia delle Tofane course in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, on Sunday, February 8. She was airlifted to a nearby hospital.

She reflected on the setback in her first Instagram post following the accident. “Yesterday my Olympic dream did not finish the way I dreamt it would,” Vonn, 41, wrote in a post on Instagram on Monday, February 9. “It wasn’t a story book ending or a fairy tail [sic], it was just life. I dared to dream and had worked so hard to achieve it.”

Vonn had also been competing in the Olympics with a torn ACL, which she sustained during a World Cup downhill practice run in Crans-Montana, Switzerland. She said the February 8 accident “had nothing to do with” her torn ACL.
