King Charles Wants to ‘Make This Christmas Feel Meaningful’ — and Prince Harry Could Be Invited

King Charles III, who was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer last year, is getting in the holiday spirit as he continues to monitor his health.

As the end of the year approaches, royal commentator Amanda Matta told Fox News Digital in an article published Friday, December 12, that it “makes sense” why the 77-year-old monarch wants this Christmas to feel “extra special.”

“I doubt an invitation for Prince Harry would be off the table entirely should the king really want to be with his birth family,” Matta told the publication of the Duke of Sussex, 41. “Charles has always felt he’s left the door open emotionally.”

She added that “after such a turbulent year” — which included stripping his brother Andrew Mountbatten Windsor of his royal titles — “understandably, he’d want to make this Christmas feel meaningful.”

In May, Harry made it clear during an interview with the BBC that he “would love reconciliation” with the royal family, especially given his father’s ailing health. However, it is unclear where things stand with his brother, Prince William.

“The reality is that tensions with Prince William remain unresolved,” Matta told Fox.

It’s no secret that the father of two has been at odds with his brother for years. Their relationship continued to decline after Harry married Meghan Markle and stepped back as a senior royal to pursue a more common life in California.

The publication of Harry’s memoir Spare only seemed to further the divide.

While Charles may want to see the Windsors come together during the holidays, a second royal expert points out that it’s unlikely Harry, his wife, 44, and their children — Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4 — would actually make the trip across the pond.

“The Sussexes would be far too distracting,” commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Fox. “In the hypothetical case that they appear, the publicity would drown out the festivities for the family. The festive season is an opportunity for the king to remind the nation and the Commonwealth of the important role the monarchy has played in soft-power diplomacy.”

Hilary Fordwich, another royal expert, told the outlet that having Harry and Meghan celebrate the holidays in London could be risky.

“The last thing any of the royals want is more controversy, let alone during the Christmas season,” Fordwich said. “Sadly, Harry can’t be trusted, so all would be leery of any leaks of private family details. King Charles, despite wanting reconciliation, is likely to weigh the fallout from another public betrayal by Harry as too high-risk at this juncture.”
