A can’t-keep-their-hands-off-each-other couple, Grace and Jackson (Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson), move from New York to an isolated homestead in Montana. But saddled with a new baby and left alone in a dilapidated house while Jackson is off at work, Grace quickly goes from madly in love to plain old mad — as in postpartum psychosis. She stops cleaning the house, flies off the handle and strips naked at random. Not surprisingly, her unhinged behavior takes its toll on her relationship with Jackson, which not only loses its va-va-voom, but threatens to turn violent.

Lawrence’s visceral portrayal of Grace’s self-destructive breakdown is electrifying — both funny and heartbreaking. She should definitely start preparing another Oscar acceptance speech.
