Two years after Ted Lasso ended, Jason Sudeikis will step back into his iconic role for a fourth season of the hit AppleTV+ show — and a source reveals that he’ll be calling the shots like never before!

“Jason was telling everybody in his world that he was done with Ted Lasso, that he wanted to focus on being a dad and making movies, and that he got to end the story completely on his terms,” an insider exclusively tells Star of the father of two – who shares Otis, 11, and Daisy, 8, with ex Olivia Wilde. “At the time, this was all true.”

Sudeikis, 49, changed his tune when he realized that the show was still the streaming platform’s “most popular show” six months after it ended.

“People were asking him about the character constantly,” notes the source.

By the time he “came around to the idea” of continuing the series, it took another year for him and other members of the main cast to “make new deals to return” – but they finally got there!

“Jason is coming back to write and play the character that made him a household name, but he’s getting paid more than he ever has to do so,” the source says.

The Saturday Night Live alum’s return to the beloved dramedy could even make him one of the “highest paid” actors on television as he makes “around $3 million per episode,” according to the source.

“But this project was never about money for Jason,” continues the source. “It was about proving himself as a writer and a star, and about getting across this message of optimism and hope that has always been the center of the character.”

This season will also be different – and more “personal” to Sudeikis – than the others. Instead of the UK, much of it is being filmed in the Midwest where the We’re the Millers actor grew up.

“Let’s see if he can really recapture the magic that made Ted Lasso a phenomenon to begin with!” concludes the source.
