“White Lotus” season 3 star Jason Isaacs says the accent he uses on the series was inspired by “Southern Charm” star Thomas Ravenel.

Isaacs, 61, has received some mixed reviews for the southern accent he employs on “White Lotus,” but during an appearance on “GMA3” on Thursday, he said he’s happy that some fans could immediately pinpoint its North Carolina origins.

“It sounds like a particular [representative] from there, who I had in my headphones,” Isaacs admitted, noting that fans from North Carolina recognized his accent, but he said he’s also channeling Ravenel.

“It came out on the internet that Mike [White] had asked us to watch Southern Charm, a great reality show, and somebody in it — people from Southern Charm — went, Hes clearly doing Thomas Ravenel. Like, that’s clearly who I am,” Isaacs said.

“And Thomas, I am doing you, mostly, but not for two vowels, which are completely English,” he said.

On the hit HBO series, which is set at a fictional White Lotus resort in Thailand this season, Isaacs plays wealthy businessman Timothy Ratliff, who is in the country with his wife Victoria (Parker Posey) and three children, Saxson (Patrick Schwarzenegger), Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook) and Lochlan (Sam Nivola).

It was previously reported that White, the series’ creator, writer and director, had their whole on-screen family watch the Bravo series for inspiration, though Hook, who is from Alabama, had no trouble producing a southern accent.

“Southern Charm,” which premiered in 2014, follows the lives of socialites living in Charleston, S.C. Ravenel, son of former U.S. Rep. Arthur Ravenel Jr., entered politics himself, having unsuccessfully run for U.S. Senate in 2004 before briefly serving as the Treasurer of South Carolina in 2007. He was suspended after being indicted on federal cocaine distribution charges, and later resigned.

“White Lotus” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
