Gwyneth Paltrow Makes Rare Comment About Her Family Life

Gwyneth Paltrow admitted that she has one regret in life when it comes to her family — she wishes it was bigger.

The 52-year-old actress appeared on the Tuesday, April 8 episode of her Goop podcast, where she told her husband Brad Falchuk about how she felt.

“My dad, Bruce Paltrow, used to say the only regret he had in his entire life was not having more kids,” Paltrow told Falchuk, 54, before she confessed that she “felt like that for a long time.”

The mother of two shares daughter Apple, 20, and son Moses, 19, with her ex-husband and singer of Coldplay, Chris Martin. The Goop founder is also stepmother to her husband’s daughter Isabella, 20, and son Brody, 18, whom he has from a previous relationship with his ex-wife, Suzanne Bukinik.

“In an ideal world, the relationship that you have your kids in works out, and your kids never have to experience divorce or blending families or anything like that,” Paltrow told her listeners later in the pod and reflected, “But a lot of times, that’s not the case.” The actress touched on her personal experience and revealed that she and Falchuk had a hard time integrating the families after her divorce from Martin, 48.

“The kids [were] having a hard time understanding and adjusting, they [didn’t] want to let go of the family dynamic they had, and the dad [was] trying to appease both and play both sides,” she explained and went on to note, “It started to just feel really light and really cohesive since then.” Paltrow also mentioned that the blended family’s bond “keeps deepening” and that it is “such a particular kind of delight to see our four kids in their own relationships and being friends with each other and loving each other.”

The Iron Man actress and musician got married in December 2005 and welcomed their two children before they split in 2014 and officially finalized their divorce in 2016. Paltrow and Falchuk met in 2010 on the set of Glee but didn’t start dating until he divorced his ex-wife in 2014. The two tied the knot in September 2018 and have been together since.
