She made consciously uncoupling look easy, but becoming a stepmother was “tricky,” Gwyneth Paltrow has admitted. In a new episode of her Goop podcast, the 52-year-old said she had to give up her dream of a Brady Bunch blended family with her kids, Apple, 20, and Moses, 19, and second husband Brad Falchuk’s children, Isabella, 20, and 18-year-old Brody.

After their 2018 wedding, the Oscar winner revealed, she had trouble knowing where she fit in. “The kids… don’t want to let go of the family dynamic they had, and the dad… is trying to play both sides,” she explained of post-divorce parenthood, adding, “The truth is, the only place to act out is against the stepmother — because they don’t want to push the dad away.”

In the end, she told her husband, 54, on the podcast, it was Isabelle who helped her grasp what it means to be a stepmom: “I was so there for her that she would not question my intentions or think that I was there to take you away from her.”
