There’s a world in which Glenn Close and Robert Redford could have been more than just friends.
During the Wednesday, December 10, installment of Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Wiser Than Me podcast, the 78-year-old actress looked back on her time working on the 1984 film The Natural alongside the late Redford.
When the Veep alum, 64, asked Close if there is anything she would go back to and “say yes,” the Tony Award winner revealed that she could have possibly been romantically involved with Redford, who died on September 16 at age 89.
“After we did The Natural, Robert Redford invited me to a very romantic restaurant where we had dinner together,” Close began. “And I was too clueless and unknowing and unsure to even consider that I might have dated him.”
Louis-Dreyfus responded by simply saying, “Oh my God.”
“I’m just going to let that sit there,” the Seinfeld star added. “But lucky you, you got to work with him.”
“Yeah,” Close responded, adding that she just “didn’t know” that the Oscar winner could have been interested in her.

Earlier in the episode, Close told Louis-Dreyfus that she had “an empty toolbox” growing up and “made a lot of mistakes” when it came to relationships.
“I think it’s sad that I was so unknowing,” said Close, who has gotten divorced three times.
The mother of one was previously married to guitarist and songwriter Cabot Wade from 1969 to 1971, to grocery heir James Marlas from 1984 to 1987 and to venture capitalist David Shaw from 2006 to 2015.
As for Redford, he was married twice: to Lola Van Wagenen from 1958 to 1985 and to Sibylle Szaggars from 2009 until his death.
Glenn considered Redford “a great friend,” according to CNN.
“I learned a lot from him,” she said. “He had the heart and soul of an artist — a true artist.”
