Witney Carson doesn’t think she’ll be hitting the ballroom with a frontrunner next season of Dancing with the Stars.
Fresh off her season 34 win with Robert Irwin, the professional ballroom dancer, 32, appeared as a guest on the Tuesday, December 9, episode of the Viall Files podcast and revealed production tries to make pairings “fair” for all the pro dancers.
“I think the producers and Deena [Katz], the cast director — they’re very smart in who they pair people with, and they’re very good at it,” she remarked. “But they try to make it as fair as possible.”
“They are all about fairness, I’ve come to learn over the years. Even with all of the votes and the judging, they try to make everything very fair,” Carson continued. “Even though it might not seem that way, but behind the scenes, they really try… not to play favoritism, especially with the pros.”

The TV personality used pro Jenna Johnson as an example, citing how she won with Bachelor Nation heartthrob Joey Graziadei in season 33, a clear frontrunner, but was paired with Corey Feldman in the following season.
As for herself, Carson predicted: “I don’t think that they would give me a winner, per se, next season.”
However, Carson noted popularity is, of course, only one part of the winning equation.
“You can tell just by popularity if a celebrity is gonna be good in that realm, but they never know if they can dance. So, like, they didn’t know if Robert could dance at all,” she admitted. “They just thought our personalities would go well together.”
“And you know, obviously, with his story, that was really great too,” Carson added. “But they just never really know if people can actually dance until you get into it.”
