Dax Shepard wasn’t surprised when Cher spoke out about his marriage to Kristen Bell.
The actor and comedian admitted he and actress Bell, 45, thought the “Believe” singer’s comments were “hysterical” after the 79-year-old star told Shepard on a recent episode of his Armchair Expert podcast that he was “lucky” to have landed the Frozen star.
Speaking to Access Hollywood at the 2026 Golden Globes on Sunday, January 11, Shepard, 51, said: “I think we both expected that.”
“That’s why you love Cher, which couldn’t be greater,” he added.

Monica Padman, 38, who cohosts the Armchair Expert podcast alongside Shepard, also backed Cher, insisting some people have taken her comments out of context.
She said: “There was a couple big headlines, but people need to go listen to the whole thing, ‘cause everything she says is perfect.”
The “Strong Enough” singer said on the January 5, episode of Armchair Expert that Bell is “definitely the better half” in her relationship with Shepard.
Shepard replied: “Who would you like to see Kristen with? Who would be your dream partner for her? ‘Cause I know you think she could do better, and I don’t disagree.”
Cher added: “The truth is, I trust her. So you must have something that I don’t see.”

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Shepard also joked Bell served him with “divorce papers” after hearing Cher’s comments.
“It was so good,” he said. “We kept it in because it was great. The internet is a dangerous place.”
Cher struck up a friendship with Bell while filming 2010’s Burlesque alongside Christina Aguilera and Stanley Tucci.
Speaking on Armchair Expert, Cher said of Bell: “We got along so well, we were very sympatico, and I respected her a lot. I didn’t know who she was, but she was good.”
