Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin Reportedly Call It Quits After Nearly 8 Years Together

Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin‘s relationship has reportedly come to an end.

On Wednesday, June 4, People reported that multiple sources confirmed the news, with one insider telling the outlet, “It feels final this time.”

The Fifty Shades of Grey star, 35, and the Coldplay frontman, 48, were photographed together in Malibu, California, just last month. The duo was also spotted walking hand-in-hand in Mumbai, India, earlier this year while Martin was on tour with his band.

The A-listers — first spotted together in 2017 — have been in an on-again, off-again relationship for years. In March 2024, news broke that the couple had been engaged for some time. Months later, in August 2024, rumors began to swirl that the couple had split. However, the Madame Web actress’s rep shut down the rumors that month, saying the duo were “happily together.”

Both Johnson and the singer-songwriter have kept their relationship incredibly private throughout the years. Still, she gave some insight into her life in Malibu with Martin in an interview with Elle UK, published in December 2021.

“We’ve been together for quite a while, and we go out sometimes, but we both work so much that it’s nice to be at home and be cosy and private,” she told the publication. “Most of the partying takes place inside my house.”

Martin was previously married to Gwyneth Paltrow. The former couple — who share two children: a daughter, Apple, 21, and a son, Moses, 19 — tied the knot in 2003 and eventually divorced in 2016.

When Johnson was asked if she liked being a “stepmom” in an interview with Bustle in March 2024, she responded, “I love those kids like my life depends on it. With all my heart.”

Johnson explained that she loved having a blended family, telling the outlet, “I think because I grew up in it, it’s come more naturally, but I wouldn’t have it any other way really. I really wouldn’t. I love it. It feels very honest. It feels really authentic. No one’s hiding anything.”

The actress also shared how much she enjoyed seeing Martin perform onstage. “I love watching him. I could watch him every day,” Johnson gushed. “I don’t know how to explain it. I feel like, I don’t know… I’m watching my most favorite being do his most favorite thing.”
