New Shakespeare Drama Called 'Will' Uncovers His Secret Life

TNT's new summer series will rip open a wild, untold story about the theater genius.

You’ve never seen William Shakespeare like this before.

Included in TNT’s summer series rollout is Will, a shocking tale about the infamous theater icon, who was secretly living through a wild, reckless and lustful time in London during the 16th century.

Will has an energy and style that is unlike anything else on television today,” said Sarah Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming for TNT. “Shakespeare was a 16th century rock star, and Will perfectly captures in contemporary terms what that must have felt like for the young writer and his fans.”

Rising British star Laurie Davidson stars as Will. His co-stars include Olivia DeJongeJamie Campbell Bower, Ewen Bremner, Mattias Inwood and Colm Meaney.

Season one will center around the struggle the young writer (Davidson) faced while trying to pursue his love for theater, all while London is spiraling out of control with its punk-rock and riotous nature. DeJonge plays Will’s secret admirer, who is desperate to pursue her acting passion, despite society banning her from doing so.

Alice’s brother (Inwood) soon teams up with Will to pen playwrights — quickly skyrocketing them as the greatest writing duo in history.

Watch the sneak peek above to see one of the oldest stories in history be transformed into a contemporary tale.

Will premieres Will on TNT on July 10.
