Christina Applegate Gets Emotional Wondering If MS Is ‘Taking Her Piece by Piece’

Christina Applegate choked back tears while opening up about the harsh reality of living with multiple sclerosis and the fear that comes with not knowing what the future holds.

During the Tuesday, January 6, episode of her MeSsy podcast that she hosts alongside Jamie Lynn Sigler, Applegate, 54, became emotional after reading a letter from a fan named Steven. Steven shared his own battle with myasthenia gravis, a rare autoimmune disease that causes severe muscle weakness.

“It has, in the past seven years, taken my soul piece by piece, day by day, hour by hour,” Steven wrote, explaining that even though he feels beaten down he refuses to give up and is exploring a promising clinical trial.

The words seemingly hit the Married With Children alum hard.

“I’m trying not to start being a crybaby again with every single thing that I’m reading,” she admitted. “I’m getting very emotional because I’m really touched by the fact that we’re all sitting in that space.”

Applegate then revealed that she was in the middle of a painful MS flare up and she described how quickly things can change.

“Yesterday, I was walking kind of OK,” she explained. “Today, I was falling over, stumbling. I just feel like, is it taking me? Is it taking me day by day, piece by piece?”

The Dead to Me star first announced her MS diagnosis in 2021 and has since been brutally honest about how unpredictable and overwhelming the disease can be.

“I can’t even read s**t like this without getting super highly triggered,” she added.

Since revealing her diagnosis, Applegate has been candid about her condition through social media and on her podcast with Sigler, which they launched in 2024. Sigler was diagnosed with MS in 2002, but she didn’t go public about her condition until 2016.
