Carolyn Bessette may have been known for her quiet elegance, but a book suggests she had strong opinions about Gwyneth Paltrow behind the scenes.
According to Gwyneth: The Biography by Amy Odell, per Page Six, Bessette wasn’t a fan of the Oscar winner during their overlapping time in the Calvin Klein orbit in the 1990s. The book claims Bessette viewed Paltrow as “little miss perfect” and would make “cutting remarks” when the actress appeared in the press.
During her eight-year tenure, Bessette worked her way up within the brand from a sales role to a key public relations position, becoming known for her sharp eye and influence in fashion.

At the time, Paltrow, now 53, was a major star client for Calvin Klein, often attending his high-profile runway shows and events. One former staffer, Kara Mendelsohn, took to her Instagram in February to recall that the actress once received VIP treatment — when Klein sent a helicopter for her to attend his show. (However, Mendelsohn noted that there wasn’t any diva behavior, instead describing her as “quiet.”)
Interest in Bessette’s life has surged as of late, thanks to Hulu and FX’s hit series Love Story, which revisits her storied romance and tragic final moments with husband John F. Kennedy Jr. The couple, and Bessette’s sister Lauren, died in a plane accident in 1999.
