Patrick Mahomes’ wife, Brittany Mahomes, has asked her social media following for help following a “devastating house fire” that turned one family’s world “upside down.”
In a now-expired Instagram Story, captured by X account Sports N Stuff, the 30-year-old mom of three shared a link to a GoFundMe, writing, “Hi guys, a friend of ours [sic] neighbor just lost their home to a fire!”
The attached GoFundMe revealed that a family of five lost nearly everything in a house fire this week after the children’s parents, Brian and Jen, stepped out briefly while the kids made s’mores.
Thinking that the s’mores maker was “safe to put away,” one of the children put it back in the pantry while it was still hot and “covered with plastic.”
“Within minutes, it ignited,” the GoFundMe explained. “Smoke began filling the house and the alarms went off. The boys tried to put out the fire with water, but it grew too quickly.”
The children escaped the home with their husky in tow and sought help from nearby neighbors.
When the parents returned home, however, “the damage was catastrophic,” according to the GoFundMe. “They lost nearly everything inside the home.”
As of Friday, November 14, the GoFundMe has raised more than $3,000 of its $5,000 goal.
The family eventually moved into a completed compound built from the ground up on the property.
“I actually decided to get the land, to get ready to build that right when I signed my contract here in Kansas City,” Patrick said in the Netflix docuseries Quarterback. “I knew I wanted to be here [in Kansas City]. So when I did that, I was like, ‘I’mma be here, I might as well build the exact house I want.’”
