Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson’s 49-Year Age Difference ‘Became a Factor’ Before Secret Split

Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson kept their split a secret for nearly an entire year — and now, the reasons behind the breakup have been revealed.

TMZ confirmed on Friday, October 30, that the University of North Carolina football coach, 74, and former beauty queen, 25, split late last year. The outlet’s sources reported that they remain “committed to their business partnerships and remain close friends,” adding that Hudson has already started seeing other people.

“Their relationship started to become bigger news than either of them ever wanted, and Bill was trying to protect it while also giving it the attention he felt it deserved,” an insider told the Daily Mail of the reasons behind the split in an article published Sunday, November 1.

“Looking back, that was a big part of what pulled his focus away from football last season,” the source continued. “He was thinking about taking the next steps with her, getting engaged, getting married, and building a future together, while also dealing with the constant attention and outside scrutiny that came with being in such a high-profile relationship. It became overwhelming for both of them.’

Citing reports that Hudson had turned down opportunities like Dancing with the Stars, the source said “everything surrounding their relationship seemed to turn into a distraction and were reasons she didn’t do certain things.”

Due to the “pressure” put on the pair, the insider said they decided to “slow things down and take a step back,” while also keeping that decision a secret from the public to avoid creating another “media circus.”

“When Bill really took a step back and thought about what he wanted, he realized that his first love has always been football,” the insider claimed of the former New England Patriots coach. “Rather than let things get more complicated or allow resentment to build, they mutually agreed that taking a step back from the relationship was the best thing for both of them.”

The insider reiterated TMZ’s claims that the pair are still close, adding that the two “still have joint ventures together and genuinely want to remain part of each other’s lives.”

“Jordon would love to get married and have children, and Bill wanted those things, too. But the age difference and where they are in their lives became a factor,” the source added, before also suggesting they could end up back together down the line.

While dating isn’t a priority for Belichick — who is reportedly focused “almost entirely” on UNC — the insider added, “Don’t rule out the possibility of them finding their way back to each other down the road” once the legendary coach finally retires.

As Star readers know, the couple reportedly started dating in 2023 before taking their relationship public the following year.

Belichick was asked about how they met during a 2025 appearance on CBS Sunday Morning with Tony Dokoupil, but Hudson quickly shut down the question, saying, “We’re not talking about this,” per ESPN. Following that interview, he told The New York Times in a statement that they had first met on a flight in 2021.
